Saidu, like many of the people you’ll discover this Christian Aid Week, is inspirational.
Leading by example, he plays a pivotal role in Gbap’s development. He’s involved in two of the committees that help improve life for the community, he’s part of the food production group and is a volunteer teacher at the local primary school.
His life is immersed by his desire to see his community do better and improve. First and foremost, Saidu believes this can be achieved by education and this is why he’s dedicated his life to teaching his community.

Leading by example
A former star pupil at the local school, Saidu not only teaches the local children, he also tutors their parents at adult literacy classes. He’s very proud of what his pupils have achieved – of the adults who not so long ago were unable to write now confidently writing their names and studying at home with their children.
Saidu considers all the pupils he teaches his brothers and sisters and describes teaching as a responsibility he can’t deny. It’s a responsibility he also enjoys as by teaching others he says he also learns from them himself.
He believes that education is the key to improving the community’s future and he has high expectations too, believing that some of the pupils he teaches can go on to become lawyers, ministers and doctors and eventually give back to the community they’ve come from – just like he has done.
With the advent of the new primary school, Saidu even helped paint the walls to ensure it could open even earlier for the local children. He couldn’t wait to start teaching there when it opened to around 400 children from the local area.
Saidu is one of the most dedicated members of the community and it’s appropriate that he believes that there can’t be development without dedication. In Saidu, the community of Gbap is fortunate enough to have both.
